Buildings serve several needs of society – primarily as shelter from weather and as general living space, to provide privacy, to store belongings and to comfortably live and work. A building as a shelter represents a physical division of the human habitat (a place of comfort and safety) and the outside (a place that at times may be harsh and harmful). Ever since the first cave paintings, buildings have also become objects or canvasess of artistic expression. Q. We live in an apartment building with four units and there are no other people occupying three of the units. About an hour ago, we discovered a huge water leak in the unit next to ours. The water boiler in the attic burst and water is flooding the attic, the level below, the floor below that one, all the way to the basement. There are several inches of water pooling in the center of each of the apartments. No water is on our side, but I'm worried about the structure of the building with that much water damage.
